Exploring Tea Culture: Introduction

The other day, my husband and I were talking about the business and he brought up a question that made me rethink how I may have presented Terra as a brand -- "Is Terra a matcha or tea brand?" 

Though I am very passionate about matcha, my purpose behind Terra has always been to offer a wide tea selection from different countries in addition to herbal teas for wellness. 

Then he put my vision into words: "exploring tea culture". It's the perfect way to describe the mission behind Terra that I have been struggling with putting into words. 

My dream has always been to visit different countries and learn about their history with tea. I've always been fascinated with how tea is prominent in every culture and yet experienced in such a different ways. I also love travelling and have always dreamed of seeing the world and this is a perfect way to combine my dreams. Everyone sees the world through a different lens and tea just so happens to be mine. 

When we went to Japan, the priority was to visit tea farms and to experience a traditional matcha ceremony. I will go more in depth about our experience in a separate blog but it was such a wonderful experience and it really filled my cup to be able to learn more about Japanese tea traditions. I honestly still can't believe that I got to experience these things firsthand. 

Because we just went to Japan, matcha has been the main focus behind Terra. Also because of the rising popularity of matcha and I personally really do enjoy the process of making it and drinking it. But we are also working on sourcing Sencha and Hojicha from one of the farms we got to visit. 

Hopefully, we will get to travel somewhere else soon and be able to offer teas from that country as well. I would love to visit Taiwan or Morroco next and be able to bring back my favorite teas and share their tea traditions.
